Cold temperatures reach the Rio Grande Valley this week, and we want you to be ready. Here are three tips to keep you warm and informed:
BUNDLE EVERYBODY UP
Even if the weather doesn’t close our schools, it’s still going to be cold, so we ask parents to keep that in mind as students return to school. During this cold weather, students can wear jackets or coats of any color over uniform to meet dress code. Students can put their coats in backpacks during the school day, but should wear them if they step outside of school and on their way home after school. Students can contact the campus counselor or social worker if they need help getting cold weather clothing.
STAY INFORMED ABOUT WINTER WEATHER
Closings or school delays are sent by email and text messages to parents who selected to receive communication from the district. Please ensure your notifications are set up correctly in our Parent Portal.
We encourage Vanguard Academy families and students to follow us on social media. We announce closures or delays on our website, Facebook, and Instagram. We will also alert local media should Vanguard Academy close its schools due to inclement weather.
KNOW HOW WE MAKE THE DECISION
The final decision about whether or not we’ll have school is made by Superintendent Dr. Marisol Rocha. She takes into consideration factors such as road conditions throughout the district, the impact of the roads on our staff, parents, and high school drivers, the amount of rain, wind, or sleet, building conditions, parking lot conditions, weather predictions and good advice from the National Weather Service.
Stay safe and warm!
